Are you looking to buy a used car? If so, you will likely turn to the internet. When it comes to buying an affordably priced used car, the internet is a great resource. Speaking of those resources, what can or should you use? Most car buyers either use Craigslist.org or car finding websites. Which approach is the best? Continue reading on to find out.

If you didn’t already know, car finding websites are websites that help you find cars for sales. They may allow car buyers to submit their advertisements for display or they may pull listings from other websites. Most car finding websites operate on a national or statewide basis. This means you may find thousands of vehicles listed for sale, but you should be able to enter in your zip code to narrow down the search.

On the other hand, Craigslist.org is an online classified website. It is mostly used to connect local buyers and sellers, but national or statewide transactions happen too.

When you use Craigslist to buy a used car, you aren’t dealing with a third-party. It is the car owner who posts for the for sale listing on Craigslist. If you are interested in buying the car, use the telephone number or email address provided for more information. Unlike many car buying websites, there are no hoops to jump through in order to get into contact with the seller.

For most vehicle buyers, Craigslist.org is one of the best ways to find, compare, and research used vehicles for sale. With that said, you may run into a few problems with your search. Craigslist only allows interested buyers to search one city page at a time. This poses a problem if you are willing to drive to get a good deal or if you live in between multiple cites listed.

Unless you download a car Craigslist finder, otherwise known as a search tool, it could take you hours to search or browse through all for sale vehicles. Although a car Craigslist finder search tool is not required, there are benefits to downloading and using one.

In 1991 BMW designed a beautiful new look, sleek 3 series, designated the e36. This model was destined to change the motoring scene and created a new motoring niche, the compact executive car, which nearly all the motoring manufacturers the world over tried to copy. This model reached a level of mechanical sophistication that is remarkably current today and is still a benchmark as it hits its middle age.
When new, the 3 series e36 was enormously popular and is now sought-after as a relatively inexpensive executive car in the used car market. It can be outstandingly good value if you can find a well looked after example with a service history, in either the four or six cylinder variant.

As usual, when buying a used car, there are certain things that you must be on the lookout for, and the BMW is no exception:-

The Bodywork

Check the side mouldings on the Sport models as these tend to rust and the clips break off. The moulding should follow the bodywork closely. Check the seam welds of the front wing; it should be neat and match each other. All the original BMW labels on the front slam panel should also be checked. Assure that the bumpers line up with the bodywork as they can become loose or uneven after an accident. The door panels must also be a good fit, flush with the bodywork. The bonnet and boot gaps must align perfectly and not be overly large. There may be some evidence of rust in the odd example in the front wings due to an inner lip design flaw; it collects water and can rust if not watched closely. Also check around the windscreen where it meets the roof for signs of rust or repair. Paint quality is generally good on these models and should last for years if maintained properly.

The Engine

Vanos The later M3 Evo’s have twin Vanos and problems can start around 45000 miles. It is usually the solenoid seals that start leaking, but a good independent dealer should be able to replace it without breaking the bank. Just be careful of main BMW dealerships; they will try to sell you the complete Vanos unit at a ridiculous price! On examples with a fairly high mileage, the water pump can start to fail; check for leaks. On some early six cylinder models, the plastic thermostat housing started to crack. This could lead to overheating and a blown head gasket. A compression test is recommended. Skipped oil changes can be disastrous as it will lead to sludged-up oil ways and an oil starved engine. Any engine that takes more than a split second to reach full oil pressure should be suspect. On some examples you may hear a ticking noise from the hydraulic lifters on starting up from cold, but this is quite normal on the higher mileage cars. On the earlier four-cylinder models the timing belts should be changed according to the factory schedule, otherwise serious damage could result. Plastics, seals and hoses should be reaching the end of their useful life as a result of under-bonnet heat; these should be checked thoroughly. Also do not forget to check the radiator and drive belts, which is now reaching replacement age. Other small things that also needs checking is vibration on the propeller shaft. The universal joints may start to seize up and as it is a sealed unit it is a job for a specialist to replace. Same with the CV joints on the rear side shafts; make sure that the rubber boots are in good shape.

In conclusion, if you are unsure about any vehicle, it may be a good idea to commission an AA test on it and request a quote on work that needs to be done prior to agreeing on a final price. What might seem to be a small repair can quickly develop to incorporate related items that need attention.

Short of forbidding their teenage child to get their driver’s license, many parents feel there’s little they can do to avoid the high cost of auto insurance for their son or daughter. Granted, an automobile insurance policy that covers a new driver is likely to be expensive, there are things that can be done to help soften the financial blow. Parents need to be aware of what to look for before they start gathering quotes for auto insurance for their teen.

A safe driver is really the most important qualification of getting a great rate. This is why enrolling the child in a driving course is a great idea. Not only does it help lower the teen’s insurance rates but it also provides some peace of mind to the parent. If the child learns how to drive from a professional, they are much more likely to continue obeying the rules of the road which will ultimately result in lower rates.

Even though all kids dream of getting a brand new sports car for their sixteenth birthday, this isn’t going to help in the quest to find affordable auto insurance for the teen. New cars simply cost more to insure. A parent is much better off buying a used car and investing the money so when the child is old enough to qualify for a low auto insurance rate they can buy the car they really want.

Many teenagers have after school jobs and there should be an agreement in place that states that they foot part of the insurance costs. This not only makes it more affordable for the parent but it teaches the child about financial responsibility as well. With this approach the child will be well prepared to pay their own auto insurance costs when they venture out on their own.
