SAP is the industry leading ERP software and to get certified as a Consultant or an Associate is highly desirable. This article explores facts about SAP certification and gives you a clear picture on what it involves and what it fetches you.

What is Certification

There are many forms of certification (Like Vendor Certification, product certification), but for the purposes of this article we will explore more about Consultant (now split into Associate and Professional).

Recommended Exam Topics

There are recommended topics for weightage for each of the exams that it conducts. An example of can be obtained here. You can also find the exam pattern (number of questions, weightage, time etc), locations, requirements etc at this location.

Where do I take the test

You can take the test at any of the authorized testing centers (Pearson Vue, Prometric, etc). Please visit the education website by country to learn more. When applying for Pearson, you will be asked for an id (called s-id). You can call the SAP and ask for the same. A number will be dispatched to you by snail mail from Germany within a couple of days if you are in the US. You can use this number to apply at Pearson.

Which exam should I take?

SAP has provided an easy Certification finder tool (provided at the bottom) where you can filter out the exams based on a number of criteria like the product you are writing for, the type of Certification and by the type of solution. If you are already training with the Academy they will guide you. Otherwise, you can call up the education services to learn more.

Getting SAP exam can be quite hard in one place. You will have to forage through Forums. Or click on the link above to find some sample questions.

Cost

To get certified costs money (around $ 500). If you are new to ERP, add additional training costs, traveling costs(to attend the Academy), hotel costs etc. In fact, there is already a new e-learning training program from the academy in place since the last 3 years where you can just do remote training. That will considerably reduce the costs(It is roughly 50% of the actual classroom training). If you have already been working in the US there are ways you can avoid going to the training without even showing work experience. In countries like India, it is currently mandatory to go through Academy training to just qualify for the examination (once again if you show relevant work experience you are waived from this requirement).

Types of SAP Certification

There are two types of exams with the third one being under development.

1. Associate
2. Professional

Professional is the more advanced among the two. All of these exams will be held on the latest product versions and any older style certificates will still hold their value depending on their validity.

Word of Caution

Please do not consider SAP Certification as your license to get rich. In spite of its merits, nothing beats

1. Quality Training
2. Project Experience.

Employers typically look at a combination of interview results, extensive project experience, referrals and certification in that order of priority. Just being certified alone will definitely not fetch you a job, but in conjunction with these other factors, a certified consultant will definitely be given a priority all else being equal.

Once a child [let's say a girl] is up and walking she takes a lot more of a parents time, needing more interaction from the parent during the day [hopefully the parent can catch a break while she has her usual naps]. Keeping a toddler interested in what you are trying to show/teach her can be impossible 90% of the time, she is so busy listening to and trying out all the new sounds, sights and textures around her that it is very difficult to keep her attention.

I found myself walking around with my son and watching him experience all the different textures and shapes he found in our house, it was quite frustrating trying to get him to pay attention to me, that is till I cam up with the idea of tagging everything [yes everything]. I spent a couple of days writing out the tags [large enough for him to be able to see and hopefully read] and attaching them to the different objects with glue, sticky tape or press stick [up where he could not reach].

Now education was on my side, everything he looked at had a name and by walking around with him I would point at the tag on the chair and say the word – strangely enough he started pointing at a object and then look to me to say the word. Needless to say this young lad fell in love with reading by the age of 4 [his first book was a encyclopedia from a friends son who had used in in his grade 6 class and did not need it anymore] and had the spelling and reading skills of a 8 year old when he started his schooling at age 6.

Oops I have been sidetracked – let me go back to the little girl who is driving her mom nuts while running around, touching and trying to taste everything [please do not think you have a naughty child during this period, she is exploring and learning]

I suggest that you do not force the child to sit with your for periods longer than 10 minutes – until what you are showing her actually starts interesting her.

Get some interesting toys

* alphabet blocks – these can be fun as you can build with them and if you have enough letters you could actually spell out her name or yours etc etc
* large colored balls – roll these to each other, this will increase her motor skills and if you name the color as you roll her language skills will also improve [as well as her knowledge of color]
* toy phones – make sure they can ring but are not too noisy, getting her to know how to use a phone can be both a curse and a godsend.

A person never knows when she will have the need to use a phone [mom could slip and not be able to phone for assistance herself]. The downside to this skill is the actual real phone – you will have to teach her the difference between phoning for real and phoning for fun [for the first few weeks she will dial random numbers and talk to imaginary friends]
* stacking rings – a toy designed to teach her about sizes, a relaxing way to educate
* musical instruments/toys – toddlers love music – how often have you seen them start to dance when music plays. Noisy for the parents but hours of educational fun for the child
* activity centers – designed with toddlers in mind, these toys have many different bits that move, buttons that make a animal sound and doors that open and close etc.

I could go on for hours about all the toys that are available to assist in the education and motor skills of a child, so I am going to shift into activities you could do with your child.

Fun Activities for a toddler

* finger painting – hours of messy fun if you could keep the toddlers attention long enough
* water play – in the bath, at last you can have her in one spot for longer than 2 minutes. Give her a small container an let her fill a bigger one – here you could count each one she pours out [you could also get a little wet here if your child has a mischievous streak]
* play dough or plasticine – teaching the little one to make shapes and letting them feel the solidity of the dough and realize it is pliable – quite fun for enhancing creativity in the child
* crayons – teaching them colors and motor skills by getting them to draw and discover the way crayons work
* sand box – all kids need one but please keep it covered with shade cloth when not in use [prevents pets from using it as there sand box] Here you can teach them the art of building sand castles etc

There are many activities you can do with your child, the most important and probably the best for both the parent and the child is going to the park or beach, not only do they learn social skills but spending the day with their mommy and daddy is a real treat for the toddler whose parents spend most of the day out at work. Remember as much as we want our child to learn, we also want her to enjoy life – all work and no play etc. should be every parents motto.

E-mail marketing has been an important part of any internet marketing strategy for quite some time but this latest generation – call them Generation Y, the Millenniums whatever, say that e-mail marketing is dead. Over 40% of college students communicate on social networks, hardly ever using e-mail at all.

This certainly doesn’t mean that e-mail marketing is completely dead, it just means that you have to adapt to be able to communicate with the younger generation. The majority of college students when asked said that e-mail was for serious stuff and that social networks are far more flexible, fun and interesting.

Teenagers tend to check their e-mail accounts less frequently than the older generation does. An e-mail inbox to them is rapidly becoming like a physical mailbox – all they contain these days is junk mail and perhaps the occasional bill. So why do they check their e-mail on these infrequent occasions? If they’re at college they look for e-mails from teachers, if they’re working, they look for e-mails sent by their employers but they all said they look for coupons and special offers from their favorite stores!

This means they are open and interested in receiving promotions, so there’s hope.

Even older people understand that social networking is much more engaging than boring old e-mails. Whereas we might go to social networking site once a day or every couple of days, the younger generation are spending hours on social networking every day.

So what does this mean for your e-mail campaigns? The key here is to mix social networking and e-mail so you can get your brand seen often. If you’re too forceful with your approach on social networking sites you’re not going to impress them, they’re there to communicate with their friends. Only 2% say that they interact with brands on social network but the majority of younger people will “fan” companies they like on Facebook and they will subscribe to their e-mails especially if they can get money-saving coupons.

So this leaves a bit of a dilemma for anyone using e-mail in an internet marketing campaign. It’s a question of how to divide content across social media platforms while still using e-mail effectively. This can be done by actively engaging younger people on social media which then draws them to your e-mail marketing campaign. That means supplementing your e-mail campaigns by adding video, articles, and perhaps contests to social media sites and to e-mail. They are much more likely to visit their e-mail inboxes if they know that your e-mails are also going to be engaging.

The trick is if you’re aiming at the younger generation they’re expecting to get “normal” salesy e-mails. If only one in five of your e-mails actually contain a promotion and you can include useful information and even video for them in the other four they’re more likely to keep coming back to their inboxes.

Younger people are always going to have to have e-mail accounts for all the important stuff so by building an effective e-mail marketing campaign targeted specifically at them you can pretty much guarantee they will open your e-mail before any of the other more businesslike e-mails.

Using a service like AWeber you can include a number of different things within e-mails to make them far more interesting. You can use one of their many snazzy templates to make your e-mails standout from the crowd and include videos and coupons to keep this new generation engaged. I think the older generation would welcome this as well!
