Keeping your students attention can be difficult when presenting them with a Bible lesson course. Teenagers have a lot on their minds and they easily get distracted and can start daydreaming at the drop of a dime. Keeping the attention of your youth ministry students requires unique approaches in your teaching. Keep the following tips in mind when you are looking for a unique way to present your Bible lessons and other youth ministry material to your youth group students.
One unique way to present a Bible lesson to your youth ministry is by using multimedia in your presentation. If you have a Bible lesson that is centered upon the topic of friendship and forgiveness, maybe you can start off a lesson by showing clips from the movie “The Bucket List”. If you are presenting a Bible lesson on the topic of Jesus Christ and his life, maybe you can show clips from the movie the “Passion of the Christ”.
It doesn’t just have to be movie though, now with the Internet being able to be accessed really everywhere, you can use PowerPoint presentations and also streaming audio or video in your Bible lessons. Multimedia is great to use as a unique way to present a Bible lesson, but another tip is to not lean on the multimedia presentation too much and don’t let it get in the way of you actually teaching your students an important Bible lesson or message from Scripture.
Another unique way to deliver a Bible lesson to your students and keep their attention throughout the entire class is to teach through a skill or teambuilding game. If you have a subject that you are covering which has to do with community or family, maybe you can have your youth ministry participate in a teambuilding game where they come together as one unit to accomplish a set of goals that you have prepared for them. This is especially great when the weather is conducive to outdoor activities and you can have everybody outside enjoying God’s great outdoors. Don’t be afraid to change up the environment of your classroom, and if the season permits take your students outside to get some fresh air while also learning the word of God.
Another unique and engaging way to teach your youth ministry students is to have them engage in group discussions and group debates. By having your students engage in debates and discussions you ensure that they will be paying attention and also that everybody will get a fair shot at participating. A great way to set up a debate is to give your students a set of questions and then divide the class into two groups. Have each group support opposing answers to questions so that there will be lively debate and both sides are equally represented.
These activities are great to use with any sized youth ministry and are guaranteed to keep your youth ministry interesting and engaging to your students. While it is important to teach from the Bible sound biblical scripture and sound biblical messages nobody says that you can’t have alot of fun while doing it.
