The changing focus in our society toward community care and prevention rather than cure have all served to improve the opportunities for nurses. Yet still the image of nursing is that of the starched apron or frowning matron. Here are just a few of the myths which persist despite evidence to the contrary:

Myth – Nursing is poorly paid.

Fact – Salaries have kept pace with the increasing responsibility being given to nurses.

For example, a nurse executive director (what used to be called a matron) in a smaller hospital trust could expect a starting salary of at least £40,000. More senior grades in our profession can expect even more.

Myth – There is no room for advancement.

Fact – Nothing could be further from the truth. There are many and varied career paths in our profession, any one of which can lead to high powered and well-paid jobs which actually shape the future of nursing and health care practice. Because of the skills nurses learn and the training system which aims to develop articulate leaders with excellent managerial and practical abilities, nurses are also highly valued in the wider business world.

Myth – You have to be female

Fact – Of 648,000 nurses registered within the UK, about 10% are male, and this is increasing.

Myth – You have to be young.

Fact – We have students in their 40′s and this is not unusual. As people become more mature they seem to seek a career which provides a feeling of self worth, real responsibility and sense of achievement. They often choose nursing.

Myth – It’s a very messy job.

Fact – It does help if you don’t faint at the sight of blood. Many nurses however work in areas where they may need to dress a wound again. Mental Health nurses for instance require skills of a very different sort from those you see on “Casualty” or “ER”.

Myth – Nursing is a manual job.

Fact – Though the provision of personal care is very important a nurses skill are better employed where they are needed, that is managing the care of patients. Community Nurses for instance are increasingly taking on roles traditionally covered by GP’s and can run their own client lists.

Myth – You become hardened to suffering.

Fact – As a professional it is vital to be able to support the family and others close to the patient. They are relying on you. In turn you can rely on your training, the knowledge you are doing your best to ease suffering and the support of others in your team. One feature commonly mentioned about any group of health professionals is the high standard of teamwork and comradeship.

Now we have exploded some old myths, what does a nurse actually do?

As we move towards and beyond the new millennium nursing is becoming as much about communication skills and management ability, as applying bandages.

Research suggests people who understand their condition and what to expect from their treatment, get better quicker than those that are left in ignorance. The ability both to listen, and to explain a situation clearly an accurately, is a core nursing requirement.

Our definition of management is not of the paper pushing kind. Whether you are leading a nursing team, handling limited resources or developing new approaches to care, your skills will have a direct impact on patients.

It’s all fantastic to hear advice throughout your pregnancy, particularly unwelcome suggestions. I’m confident you have learned by 1 person or a surplus the best method to live. Am I suitable? It only gets worse the further along in your pregnancy you might be. Someone will need to tell you that you simply should not bend, or walk a particular way, not to pick up a baby in case you hurt the one inside your stomach or place your self in labor. As the pregnancy gets closer towards the due date you’ll be told several different house remedies of how to place oneself in labor. Got a headache? A person can tell you exactly what to drink to acquire rid of it without any medicine, remember it is essential to ask a physician before trying to take one thing you’ve never ever attempted before performing it. But possibly the most enjoyable I have in the midst of the course of the 9-10 months stretch is hearing all of the wives tales, also recognized as myths.

I’m quite confident you aren’t going to even care at this point what sex the baby is, all you want is for the morning illness to cease. You may even be counting down the days until the first trimester is more than. Chances are in the occasion you morning illness a person is sure to tell you what sex of the infant is. One wives tale is should you be having severe morning complaint can be a sign that you are having a girl.

Here’s a wives tale that is a a lot of fun and you can check it out on everyone inside your household. Take a thin piece of string or your hair, slide your ring down it, hold it above your belly and let the ring dangle above it. If the rings spins in a circle it is a boy, but if it goes from one side towards the other, it truly is a girl. Once you’ve tried it out on your tummy, get a personal inside your home and do it above their hand. Does the ring spin in a circle above your husband’s hand? Hmm, is it genuinely and old wives tale or is there genuinely one thing to it?

Many ladies claim to suffer from bouts of heartburn in the course of the pregnancy, as reported by the old wives inform this would imply your baby will be born having a head packed with hair.

Correct just before the finish of the first trimester your physician will listen to your baby’s pulse rate, this would be to ensure the baby is carrying out alright. The wives tale goes, if the pulse rate is high it truly is a girl in addition to a low 1 is a boy.

Ever have someone tell you that you are carrying high or low and wonder what that genuinely means? Fundamentally if you are carrying your baby low it’s nearer to your abdomen, a high baby is closer to your chest. Appear at oneself in the mirror. How is your baby sitting? The old tale says that in case you are carrying high it is a girl, carrying low can sometimes be a boy.

Wives tales can be a lot of fun but maintain in mind these are not fact. Don’t go preparing your kids room just as a result of the fact 1 of these told you, you were going to have a girl.

As with any disease, diabetes is surrounded by a plethora of myths regarding the disease itself. The following are common myths for diabetes and a few facts to debunk them on the spot.

First Myth: You have to give up all sweets, including the well loved chocolate bar.
Myth debunked: Are you exercising and eating healthy meals catered around being diabetic? A dessert or sweet treat now and then are okay. Don’t make it a regular habit and go easy on the portion, as anyone making healthy food choices should be doing, diabetic or not.

Second Myth: Diabetes is contagious.
Myth debunked: The cause for diabetes may still be a mystery, but it is not contagious. There may be a play in genetic make up, but not the ability to catch the disease from someone else. So go ahead – hug that diabetic!

Third Myth: Don’t overdose on the carbs.
Myth debunked: Again, it’s not necessarily the type of food, but the regularity of consumption and the amount consumed.

The body needs some carbs, so eat a good meal and a good meal means appropriate sized portions.

Fourth Myth: There are no boundaries on fruit intake.
Myth debunked: Fruit is a great source of fresh vitamins, minerals, and fiber, but it’s also drenched with natural sugars and carbs. It’s okay to partake, but in moderation. Ask your doctor if you’ve got concerns.

Fifth Myth: Sugar intake causes diabetes
Myth debunked: Not! It doesn’t cause diabetes, but it sure can complicate it if too much sugar is consumed. Besides, sugar will add weight quickly and excessive weight is hard on the body, plain and simple. If diabetes runs in your family, it’s even more important to watch your weight and exercise regularly.

Sixth Myth: Diabetic food is the best choice
Myth debunked: Not (again) Diabetics, like everyone, need a healthy meal plan that is low in fats.

Salt and sugar should be used in moderation. Whole grains, veggies and fresh fruits are all a plus.

Seventh Myth: Life-expectancy is short.
Myth debunked: Whereas the life-expectancy of a diabetic diagnosed with childhood diabetes was not good years ago, great advances have been made for the newly diagnosed to live a long and normal life if they follow their doctor’s guidelines and treatment plan. Good news!

Eighth Myth: Once diagnosed with diabetes, life as you knew it is over.
Myth debunked: Whoever said that is behind the times. Life is different – you’ve got a disease to manage but it does not have to manage you. Live as if you believe it.

InterNetwork Marketing…

Internet-Network Marketing…

MLM online…

It doesn’t matter what you call it. All that matters is that you begin to see the kind of leverage the Internet can give you when building your business.

The Internet allows average people build massive downlines in less than 2 years. Normally in traditional network marketing it would take 5-10 years to build any kind of decent residual income. What the Internet does best is create efficiency- efficiency simply means you save time.

If you aren’t using the Internet to help aid you in building your network marketing business then you are going to be left behind. It is too powerful of a tool to ignore.

O.k. so let’s say that you already realize the significance of Internet-Network marketing. But, you don’t know where to begin. After all, the Internet is a big place and there is a ton of information. So how do you effectively use this tool without getting lost and confused?

Glad you asked.

First let’s dispel some myths about Internet-Network Marketing:

1. It is easy. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Building a business is NEVER easy. It takes dedication, commitment, persistence, and consistency. What the Internet does is create LEVERAGE. So if you are willing to put the work into it at first… over time it gets easier and easier.

2. It is 100% automated. You’ve heard it, “Build your downline without even picking up the phone”. Maybe you’ve heard of “The King Of Never Calling A Lead”. Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but no business will last without building a relationship. And building relationships require that you pick up the phone, you email your downline, and you meet them periodically to see them face to face. If you just want to hide behind a computer then good luck… cause it won’t work! But, the good news is that if you plug into a proven marketing system it can automate 90% of the work. So again, the Internet does provide HUGE leverage.

3. You can’t build relationships through the internet. Oh really? I am always amazed when I hear ignorant networkers tell me this. The fastest growing trend on the Internet happens to be Social Networking. Hmmm… interesting… Social NETWORKING. Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, and many just like it are the buzz on the Internet. Why? Because people are realizing that connecting with other people around the world has never been easier than through the Internet. People are meeting their best friends through the Internet. People are meeting their spouses through the Internet. And you don’t think that you can meet your next potential distributor through the Internet? Of course you can! The Internet actually increases the relationship aspect if used properly.

4. Retention is low. Well, retention is low anytime a new distributor feels disconnected. If you plug your new distributors into a good internet marketing system than you will actually increase retention. Remember, the marketing system is EVERYTHING! If you are part of a company that does not have a good marketing system… then go find one that does!

Alright, I could go on and on about different myths I’ve heard over the last couple years from people who are just plain ignorant about the Internet.

But, I want you to know that anyone who plugs into a good online marketing system can build a very successful network marketing business. Times are changing- and they are changing for the better. You and me have a lot better chance to succeed today then ever before in history. You just need to learn how to harness the power of the Internet!

The Birman is a pedigree species of domestic cat, first officially recorded as a breed in France in 1925 under the name ‘Sacre de Birmanie’; it’s said to have originated in Western Burma where it is regarded as being sacred; its beginnings as a species are shrouded in exotic myths and complex legends which gives this cat a special mystique. This variety is so old and venerated that its existence has even been traced back to Ancient Thailand.

Male Birman cats can be quite large in size with the females a little smaller. They have average-length, silken coats, not quite as long and wild as a Persian’s and not as prone to tangles, starting off white in kitten-hood, they start to develop color in the fur at the age of one week, progressing to a flaxen or eggshell shade; markings on the coat are blue, deep brown, cream, seal, yellowish-white, red, and lilac. There are tabby and tortoiseshell variations in this breed.

Birman’s have sapphire colored eyes, remaining a striking shade of blue throughout their life; they are the one cat that has pure white paws in the colorpoint coat range of felines; this feature is highly unusual and genetically puzzling.

These are classic people oriented cats and they will tolerate play with children and will even cohabit with other pets if introduced sensitively; a definite indoor pet, the Birman is bright, alert, curious and active. As a member of the family, they will want to follow you and be a part of your daily routine, whether you’re washing, gardening or reading quietly in the study, your Birman will let you know of its presence with a soft, bell-like mew.
